A Gift From God

The Internet as a means of communication and keeping in touch came up in a Memcare team e-mail, so I am reposting this blog from February 1, 2007.

Whatever else it may be and for whatever purposes the internet is used and misused, it is a wonderful gift for missionaries. In what other age would we be able to keep in such close and quick contact with friends and loved ones? With what other device could we make free phone calls across the sea? How else could we keep up with the news from the States and around the world in a place where all the newspapers are in Dutch?

There is one other great thing that the Internet has brought into my life today. Worship. Can you imagine not adding a single new song to your worship repertoire in 17 months? I can hardly imagine the dryness of even a few months, but that is what we have experienced here. Today I was listening on-line to a Christian radio station that my sister referred me to that streams music live over the internet. What a blessing it was to me and such wonderful new songs! It was like fresh water to my soul. One song I especially liked. The chorus says, "My Savior loves, My Savior lives, My Savior's always there for me. My God who was, My God who is, My God who always will be." It may not sound that profound, but the fullness of the fact that my Savior loves me and He is always there for me brought me to tears. He is a great God, He does live and He is eternal. And He really, really loves me. I can feel it. Now I can go on-line and buy that song, just that one, and add it to my music on the computer. Life can be really good in this computer age.
